Three Uniforms of Ronald Schumacher KIA

SGT Ronald Kenneth Schumacher- E Co. 2nd Bn, 3rd Marine Rgt. 3rd Marine Div. killed in action 20 July 1967 during Operation Bear Chain.

"Sgt. Schumacher was a leader who tried to take care of his men the best he could. He always shared the kool aid sent to him from home to disguise the chemical taste of the water purifier "halazone" we had to drink. He could typically be found with his men in the field, trying to teach them what he knew." He became seriously wounded and soon died when the point man walked into an ambush During Operation Bear Chain near Ap Vin An village.

The operation targeted the coastal region between Quang Tn City and the city of Hue. The mission was to attack the exposed seaward flank of the 806th VC Battalion and to destroy it, or at least drive it westward toward ARVN forces engaged in Operation Lam Son 87.
